Information about our Energy Retailer Partner, Localvolts
Why is Reposit asking me to sign up with Localvolts?
Reposit offers you a No Bill Guarantee, so while you're on No Bill, you never see an electricity bill. This doesn't mean that the bills for your property disappear though. Reposit assumes responsibility for the energy retail relationship at your property, but we aren't an energy retailer ourselves.
As Reposit is not a retailer itself, this means the information we have for your property can't be listed in the energy market by us. In order for the energy market to understand who's in the home, an electricity account needs to be created in the homeowners name/s. This is important, because the energy market lists this information for the local network provider, so if there's a planned or unplanned outage that affects your area the local network provider will be able to contact you directly to let you know.
As a Virtual Power Plant, Reposit works to support our energy grid when it's under or over-resourced. Because all Reposit No Bill systems are grid-connected, we need to ensure we have an energy retail partner that not only aligns with our sustainable values, but also provides us with better and more dynamic access to the energy market.
Important points to take away:
Agency arrangement
Our partnership with Localvolts allows us to act as your agent. When you sign up, Reposit will be selected to act as your agent to manage all of your electricity bills on your behalf. This guarantees that you will see No Bill.
The "account holder" is deemed to be living at the property
Prior to our partnership with Localvolts, we would sign your address up with a generic retailer in Reposit's name - meaning we would receive electricity bills for your address. This meant that Reposit would be the account holder and you would be living in the property.
We have learned that it's more beneficial for the electricity account to be in the homeowner's name for a number of reasons:
- The account holder's information is given to the distributor so that they can communicate with you about outages and grid issues
- The account holder's direct consent is required to manage life support equipment at your home
No Bill energy sharing
Partnering with Localvolts means that we can share energy between our No Bill customers. So, if it's sunny in QLD and rainy in the ACT we can send some of that extra solar power down to Canberra to offset what our customers are using!
How do I sign up?
Who are Localvolts?
Localvolts is an Aussie energy retailer who provides direct access to wholesale pricing and consumer-to-consumer energy trading. You can find out more about them on their website here.
Can Reposit sign up on my behalf?
No. Energy retailers require the explicit permission of the resident of the property.
This is important for a number of liability reasons, most importantly, the energy retailer will pass the account holder’s information on to the distributor so that they can send important notifications regarding grid conditions such as outages. They can also assist you in registering any life support equipment you may have in your home.
It says Reposit will act as my agent, what does that mean?
When we say No Bill, we mean it! By signing up with Reposit as your agent we will receive all bills for your property and manage any trading within the Localvolts platform on your behalf. It's part of our No Bill guarantee that ensures your system is optimised correctly, this includes within Localvolts' wholesale trading platform.
Are Localvolts going to contact me?
Sometimes. As an energy retailer, Localvolts have a number of obligations. Occasionally they may reach out to you via email with outage notifications, for example, if there are any works happening in your area that may cause you to lose power.
One thing that you should never receive, however, is a bill. If you do happen to mistakenly receive a bill, please let our team know. You can do that on the Customer Portal or contact page.
Why do I need my Medicare card?
Your Medicare card information is how Localvolts can confirm your identity when you sign up with them. They’ve chosen to use this option over other forms of identification like a driver's license and DOB because they can verify who you are very quickly, and without storing any of your information.
Other reasons to make the leap to Localvolts!
It’s shared: When you join Localvolts you are joining a community of other No Bill customers. This means that when Reposit buys energy from the grid to service your property, that energy will first come from the excess generation of other No Bill customers, and vice versa.
It’s greener: Most Retailers in Australia buy electricity from big gas or coal fired generators to sell to you. With Localvolts, more of your energy will be coming from clean, green renewable sources of generation.
It’s innovative: The Localvolts platform is unlike any other in Australia. It gives your Reposit system access to energy markets that no other retailer can, and in turn makes your No Bill system work harder to balance consumption and generation to the benefit of all households.
It’s Australian-owned: Australian owned and operated. Like Reposit, Localvolts is fully Australian owned and operated, so being with Localvolts you know that you are supporting two Aussie companies and all proceeds stay in Australia.
Would I be better off trading my own energy on the Localvolts platform?
It’s very likely you would be worse off, unless you put in an incredible amount of effort and know-how.
In most cases, we’re talking about saving cents, not dollars, all day every day. Many people who try to trade their own energy find it becomes like a full-time job, and if you take your eye off the ball, it can be costly. As a No Bill customer, you don’t need to worry about trading. Along with our intelligent controllers, our team of energy market experts take care of the trading for you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you don’t pay a bill.
I can log in to Localvolts and have access to the energy marketplace, now what?
Localvolts love transparency - and that’s cool with us. That means they want to make sure that everyone who is a customer of theirs has the same access as anyone else, including to their web app. Because of this, all of our No Bill customers will be given login credentials for the Localvolts platform. However, there’s no action you need to take - if you never log in, that’s fine. You’re free to look around the Localvolts app if you like, but please don’t enable any energy trades - doing so will interfere with our management of your No Bill system.
